Delete Your Account & Data
Last updated: 19 September 2026
This page explains how to request deletion of your Kitita ("KiTiTa") account and personal data. Kitita is a non-custodial group financial management platform for chamas, SACCOs, and community groups, published by Kitita. It describes the steps to request deletion, what data is deleted or kept, and the retention period that applies.
Delete your account
You can request deletion of your account directly in the Kitita app:
- Open the Kitita app and sign in.
- Go to Settings.
- Tap Delete account.
- Read the confirmation, tick the box to confirm you understand, then tap Request deletion.
Your account is then scheduled for deletion and enters a 30-day grace period.
Prefer email, or can't sign in? Send a request from your registered email address to kitita@baruamail.com with the subject "Delete my account", and we will process it for you.
Changed your mind? To cancel a pending deletion during the 30-day grace period, contact us at kitita@baruamail.com and we will reinstate your account.
Delete specific data without closing your account
If you would like us to delete only certain personal data — rather than closing your whole account — email kitita@baruamail.com from your registered email address and describe the data you want removed. We will remove what we can while keeping the shared group records that other members rely on and any records we must retain by law, and we will respond within 30 days.
What is deleted
When your deletion request is actioned, we delete or anonymise the personal information that identifies you, including:
- Your profile: name, email address, phone number, and password;
- Your notification preferences and any email verification codes;
- The personal contact details attached to your group membership.
What is kept, and why
Kitita records group finances that other members depend on. To keep those group records accurate and to meet our legal and accounting obligations, some information is retained after your personal data is removed — disassociated from your identity where possible:
- Shared group financial records — contributions, loans, repayments, and ledger entries;
- Group activity that other members rely on, such as meeting and approval records.
This mirrors the retention terms in our Privacy Policy.
Retention period
Account deletion requests are actioned within 30 days. During this grace period your access may be restricted. After your personal data is deleted or anonymised, shared and financial records may be retained only for the period required by applicable law — including the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019, and accounting and regulatory obligations — after which they are deleted or kept in anonymised form.
